This mechanism unfolds through <strong>venous hypoxia, free iron buildup, blood-brain barrier (BBB)<\/strong> damage, and <strong>oxidative stress<\/strong>. Let\u2019s explore how these factors intertwine.  <\/p><p>CCSVI is characterized by <strong>stenosis, reflux, and compressions<\/strong> of the jugular, azygos, or vertebral veins\u2014often influenced by posture. The result is <strong>chronic venous stasis<\/strong>, which disrupts the brain\u2019s hemodynamic balance and triggers both local and systemic inflammatory processes. <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-c097351 e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"c097351\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-224d543 elementor-widget elementor-widget-themeht-heading\" data-id=\"224d543\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"themeht-heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\r\n        <div class=\"\">\r\n\r\n          <h2 class=\" \">When Cerebral Venous Drainage Fails<\/h2>       \r\n\r\n        <\/div>\r\n\r\n        \t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-ad3e9ee elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"ad3e9ee\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h3>\ud83e\ude78 Chronic Venous Hypoxia<\/h3><p data-start=\"94\" data-end=\"729\">In CCSVI, obstruction or compression of the cerebral venous pathways doesn\u2019t block arterial blood from entering the brain\u2014but it does slow down its outflow. This creates a backlog that, over time, reduces oxygenation of brain tissue. It\u2019s not an acute hypoxia, but a <strong data-start=\"360\" data-end=\"388\">chronic, post-capillary<\/strong> one that disrupts neuronal metabolism. Neurons are no longer supported by a healthy environment: toxic metabolites build up, nutrient exchange slows, and the excitability of nerve cells shifts. The most common symptoms? Mental fatigue, brain fog, and difficulty focusing\u2014often mistaken for anxiety or stress.     <\/p><p>\ud83d\udc49 A pilot study on patients with CCSVI in the context of multiple sclerosis showed that the degree of cerebral hypoxia, measured through MRI perfusion, <strong data-start=\"150\" data-end=\"188\">increases with the severity of CCSVI<\/strong>:<br data-start=\"159\" data-end=\"162\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a title=\"Hypoperfusion of brain\" href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/21385345\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-start=\"0\" data-end=\"128\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\">Hypoperfusion of brain parenchyma is associated with the severity of CCSVI \u2013 PubMed<\/a><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-aecc164 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"aecc164\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h3>\ud83e\uddf2 Iron Buildup<\/h3><p data-start=\"762\" data-end=\"1344\">Free iron isn\u2019t supposed to be present in large amounts within brain tissue. Yet in the presence of venous reflux and micro-hemorrhages caused by increased pressure, <strong data-start=\"923\" data-end=\"954\">hemoglobin can break down<\/strong> and release extracellular iron. This iron interacts with hydrogen peroxide, producing oxidative radicals through the Fenton reaction, which in turn damage brain cells. In patients with CCSVI and multiple sclerosis, <strong data-start=\"1201\" data-end=\"1291\">iron accumulation has been observed in the basal ganglia and around periventricular veins<\/strong>\u2014critical areas for motor and cognitive regulation.   <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-a9cef15 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"a9cef15\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h3>\ud83e\udde0 Blood-Brain Barrier (BBB) Damage<\/h3><p data-start=\"1401\" data-end=\"1894\">The BBB is a highly selective filter that shields the brain from toxins and inflammatory molecules. But when venous pressure remains chronically elevated, this <strong data-start=\"1559\" data-end=\"1585\">barrier begins to loosen<\/strong>. When the production of free radicals (ROS) overwhelms the body\u2019s endogenous antioxidant defenses (such as glutathione and superoxide dismutase), cell membranes begin to break down, proteins denature, and mitochondrial DNA becomes damaged. This creates a \u201cfertile ground\u201d for neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer\u2019s, multiple sclerosis, and even Parkinson\u2019s.
